Collectively, the principals and departmental managers of La Plata have over 80 years experience on Briargate projects alone and over 100 years of real estate development and management experience.  La Plata employees are members of the Urban Land Institute, officers and directors of the local, state and national home builders associations, and members of APA and the Community Association Institute.

Locally, La Plata participates in the Housing and Building Association, the Colorado Springs Regional Business Alliance and several nonprofit organizations.  La Plata employees serve as officers and directors of several nonprofit organizations.

B. Douglas Quimby

President and Chief Executive Officer

From 2002 through 2007, Mr. Quimby served as the Chief Operating Officer of La Plata Investments, LLC, a predecessor company to La Plata Communities.  He was outside legal counsel for La Plata and the Briargate Joint Venture, the original owner and developer of Briargate, from 1980 to 2002.

Doug graduated from Harvard College in 1975 and earned a law degree from Stanford Law School in 1978.  He practiced law from 1978 to 2002, primarily in the areas of real estate development and business transactions.  As a partner in Holme Roberts and Owen and later as proprietor of his own firm, he served as legal counsel for the developers of many master planned communities in Colorado Springs, including Cheyenne Mountain Ranch, Mountain Shadows, Peregrine, Northgate, Nor’wood and the Broadmoor Resort Community.  Mr. Quimby was also General Counsel, Chief Financial Officer, Secretary and Treasurer of Professional Bull Riders, Inc. from January, 1994 through October, 2001.

Mr. Quimby has served as a director of several non-profit organizations.  He is a past vice chairman of the Colorado Springs Economic Development Corporation and the Colorado Springs Regional Business Alliance.  He is currently a director and president of both UCCS Development Corp and the Pikes Peak Real Estate Foundation, as well as a member of the Board of Trustees of Colorado Mesa University.  He is also a full member of the Urban Land Institute and participates in a Community Development Council.  Doug coached high school basketball for many years.

Michael G. Ruebenson

Chief Operating Officer

Mr. Ruebenson graduated from the University of South Dakota in 1985 with a B.S. degree in Accounting. He was an audit manager at Deloitte & Touche in Colorado Springs from 1985 to 1991, specializing in real estate development and commercial property entities. From 1991 to 2001, Mr. Ruebenson held the position of Senior Director of Finance and Contracts at Signal Processing Technologies, Inc. (SPT), a semiconductor company located in Colorado Springs. From 2001 to 2003, Mike was the Chief Financial Officer of Colorado Structures, Inc., a large commercial general contractor with offices in various western states. In early 2003, Mike accepted the position of Vice President/CFO for General Converting, Inc., a folding carton manufacturer located in Bolingbrook, Illinois. In 2004, Mike relocated back to Colorado Springs and accepted the position of Controller at Spectranetics, Inc., a publicly-held medical device company. In July 2005, Mike joined La Plata Investments as its Chief Financial Officer.

Mr. Ruebenson, who is a CPA, is active in the community. Mike is a director and the past president of the Colorado Springs Housing and Building Association and a director of Care and Share.

Guy Childs

Chief Financial Officer

Mr. Childs joined La Plata Communities as its Chief Financial Officer in August 2016. Prior to that, he was Chief Financial Officer at Spectranetics, a publicly held company in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He spent 25 years at Spectranetics, the last 13 as CFO. The Company grew from $28 million in 2003 to nearly $300 million in revenue in 2016, and its valuation increased from $60 million to $2.2 billion at the time of its sale to Royal Philips. From 1988 to 1991, he was at Deloitte & Touche, conducting and leading audits in the healthcare, manufacturing and financial services industries. Mr. Childs graduated in 1988 from the University of South Dakota, Vermillion, South Dakota, with a Bachelor of Science, Accounting. He is a past board member for the Colorado Springs Chamber of Commerce & Economic Development Corporation and was on the Executive Committee and the Economic Development Advisory Council. He also served as a past board member, treasurer and head of the Finance Committee for Family Promise, a non-profit organization providing transition services to homeless families.

Cody Humphrey

Director of Planning

As the Director of Planning at La Plata Communities, Mr. Humphrey oversees all design details related to multiple master planned communities currently in various stages of development. Mr. Humphrey has over 20 years of experience focusing on the planning and landscape architecture of master planned and resort communities in various locations throughout the United States as well as the Virgin Islands, Mexico, Colombia, China, and Russia.  

Mr. Humphrey graduated from Ball State University with a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture in 2001. From 2001 to 2009, he was a project planner for DTJ Design in Boulder, CO, were he sharpened his skill set related to planning and design.  He owned a small design practice called Cairn Consulting from 2009 to 2014 that brought experience related to running a small business.  Prior to joining La Plata in 2016, Mr. Humphrey earned a Master’s Degree in Business Administration with a focus on real estate from the University of Colorado in 2014. From 2014 to 2016, Mr. Humphrey was the Recovery Housing Manager for the Town of Lyons, CO, tasked with finding opportunities to rebuild housing for residents who had been displaced after the 2013 floods destroyed much of the town’s middle to low-income housing stock. Currently, Mr. Humphrey is involved with the Urban Land Institute at a national and local level as well as the Housing and Building Association of Colorado Springs.

Mr. Humphrey’s pragmatic approach to both design and development allows for La Plata to maximize the value within its communities without compromising the quality of design.

Steve Rossoll

Director of Development

Mr. Rossoll started his engineering career in Phoenix in 1985. In 1992, he brought his experience to Colorado Springs where he has remained. He has been involved in numerous master planned communities including Briargate, Peregrine, and Mountain Shadows. His focus as a civil engineer has been in all aspects of land development. Steve’s thirty-three years of experience in Colorado Springs and El Paso County have given him the relationships and tools necessary to excel as Director of Development for La Plata.

As La Plata’s Director of Development, Steve’s direct responsibilities include the physical development of all projects for the company including residential, commercial, infrastructure, major drainage, and landscaping. In addition, he oversees the engineering consultant and manages local, state, and federal permitting on all projects. He and his team also provide budgets and schedules for product delivery. Steve is a registered Professional Engineer in the State of Colorado. 

Donald B. Gravette

Director of Special Projects

Mr. Gravette commenced his real estate career after obtaining a B.S. degree in Real Estate from San Diego State University in 1977. His early experience at a title company, and then as the director of site selection for a hotel/restaurant company, provided a base of understanding of key real estate characteristics/components. From 1981 to 1991, Mr. Gravette’s experiences included the construction of condominiums, a self-storage facility and the master-planning of the 504-unit Singing Hills residential community within San Diego County, along with land development consulting on 3,600 acres in the Phoenix marketplace. In 1991 Mr. Gravette partnered in the formation of an outsourcing mortgage release and reconveyance company and moved its operations to Colorado Springs in 1993, maintaining its operations through 2005. During the period 1995 through 2009, Mr. Gravette provided land development management services for the Vickers Trusts’ nearly 700 acres, in Denver, and partnered to establish Universal Golf Development, which owned and operated six golf courses in Colorado, Florida and Mexico. From 2004 to 2016, Mr. Gravette was owner of the Pasadena Yacht & Country Club, located in Gulfport, Florida.

Mr. Gravette began his association with La Plata in 2015, utilizing his background in Special District management at La Plata’s The Farm development. Currently, Mr. Gravette manages eleven metropolitan districts, coordinates commercial real estate land activities, and focuses on other special projects geared toward supporting La Plata’s growth opportunities.

Lindsey Nigon

Director of Marketing and Communications

Ms. Nigon is a marketing professional with experience in strategic planning, advertising and tactical execution in real estate, as well as other consumer brands.  She joined La Plata in 2008 and currently manages the marketing department, including strategic and tactical planning, advertising, Internet programs, realtor communications and new community development.

Her background includes serving as a project manager for Milesbrand, a real estate branding and consulting agency, where she worked with various home builders and land developers across the country to develop brand positioning, communications strategies and advertising campaigns. Lindsey also worked for the largest advertising agency in Minneapolis, where she gained extensive experience in media, budgeting, forecasting, merchandising, product development, market analysis and competitive reviews.

Lindsey graduated magna cum laude from the University of Arizona with a double major in Communications and Spanish. Lindsey has 15 years of experience with La Plata Communities.
